“In the beginning, I didn’t have any aspirations of becoming a well-known singer and songwriter. My first foray into the music industry was actually as a producer back in 2013. It’s been over a decade now and I’ve gained a wealth of experience in the industry.” Nicky said.
Then continued, “My desire was to become a successful artist, but it wasn’t financially viable for me at the time. It wasn’t until I produced my first song, Vakandimaka, in 2012 that I realized I had a natural talent for music.”
“I discovered music production as a way to support my passion for music since my brother had a laptop. I spent a lot of time learning how to make beats and working with Zimdancehall singer Maffcat. Together, we produced the riddim Hurura MaBhurugwa, which featured popular artists like Ninja Lipsy and went viral.”
“Being active on the internet helped me gain the exposure and connections to sell my beats. As my reputation grew, I began producing Afro beats and this earned me some much-needed income to invest in my own studio equipment.”
“My hard work paid off and I started supplying beats to various international artists, including some in Jamaica. My success extended to the charts, with almost 10 of my songs making it onto the Jamaican charts. This enabled me to finally overcome my financial challenges and I was able to upgrade my studio to a state-of-the-art facility.” He added.
“It was quite a shock to the people in my community when they discovered that I was not only a producer, but also a talented singer. This realization only came about after my music began to trend.” He said with a chuckle.
